Jatiyo Smriti Soudho

Jatiyo Sriti Soudho Bengali: (জাতীয় সৃতি সৌধ) is a memorial of Bangladesh. It is National Martyrs’ Memorial. Jatiyo Sriti Soudho is the symbol of the velour and the give up of those killed in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

The plans for the monument were commenced right after the independence in 1972. The site selection, road and land development design rivalry was held in June of 1978. Syed Mainul Hossain’s design was chosen the evaluation of the fifty seven surrenders. The main structure and the mock lake and other facilities were finished in 1982.

Jatiyo Sriti Soudho is poised of seven triangular pyramid shaped structures. The middle pyramid is being the tallest. The highest dot of the monument is one hundred and fifty feet tall. There are several accumulations of graves in front of the core monument. There is a There is an artificial lake also.

Total complex is extending over an area of thirty four hectares land. It is covered by a green belt of ten hectares area. Numerous mass-graves and an indication water body are placed in front of the monument. When visitors enter the complex by the main gate they can see the monument.


The development was assembled in three periods. The first one began in 1972. The plan was at a cost of 26 lacs taka to involve in obtaining land and building road. During 1974 – 1982 the second phase was started at 3.77 crores taka. This amount was spent to build parking space, helipad, pavements etc. The third phase was begun in 1982. It was cost 848.65 lacs taka. The main structure was built separately. The Public Works Department of the Bangladesh government controlled the structure of the project.

Jatiyo Sriti Soudho is located in Savar district of Dhaka division of Bangladesh. It is about 35km far from the north-west part of the Dhaka city. It is very easy to reach there from the national airport within one hour.
